it happened

My mom was sitting on the floor saying, "Elisabeth, walk to me!" And my sweet girl, who was standing in between the coffee table and sofa, took two steps back, let go with her hands, held her head high, locked eyes with her grandmama, and walked oh-so-confidently all the way across the room to my mom's eager arms! My mom and James went wild with joy, mingled with a little shock!

When did this happen? Well, since you asked...

My mom and one of my sisters came for a quick overnight trip a few days before my birthday. My sister and James attended Chick-fil-A Leadercast while my mom and I spent the day catching up and playing with the kids. The plan was for them to be packed and ready to go home at 5:30pm. The appointed time arrived and they just kept finding excuses to hang around for a few minutes more and then a few more. I heard some hollering from the den and rushed in to see what was the cause of the excitement. They said "watch this!" This is very close to what I saw...

Elisabeth hadn't taken a single step since they had arrived and really hadn't taken many steps at all with James and me, so this was a pretty big shock! I'm so glad they stayed about an hour longer than planned! Elisabeth must have been saving up her special trick for her grandmom! Sam was so thrilled with all the cheering that he wanted a piece of the action. He started walking to everyone and waiting for our cheers. We indulged him and his face just lit up. It made me think, I definitely take for granted that I can walk. Then I decided to change my way of thinking and try not take anything for granted. Let's celebrate, even the little things!

Happy Walking Everyone!
