beat the heat

It has been hot. I mean really hot. The kind of hot that makes every pore of your body sweat before you even have the chance to close the door behind you. That kind of hot. Unless I'm swimming in a pool, I try to avoid being outside in the heat of the day at all costs.

On one particular day, we went to the pool to cool off and play. After everyone scorched their feet on anything and everything not submerged, we decided to come back inside. Sam went wild with blocks. He gathered them all up, or swiped them from the sweet hands of his little sister, and started piecing them one on top of another. He tried and tried and tried to build a tall tower, but his top heavy creations tumbled down again and again. Finally, he got one to stay standing with some sage advice from Aunt Rachel about firm foundations.

This is Sam posing with his masterpiece, The Leaning Tower of Pisa Blocks.

Non-hot things I am thankful for so far this summer:
- nap time
- a pool nearby
- A/C
- the playroom
- Skype
- strawberries
- reading
- ice
- Publix
- blocks
- puzzles
- play dough
- crayons*

* I like crayons on paper, not on the walls or the TV screen like earlier this week.

From my home to yours,
Stay Cool!
